Thrive has 45 years’ experience of an approach called social and therapeutic horticulture (STH), where trained STH practitioners work with people and plants to improve an individual’s physical and mental health, communication and social skills.
Chimo is funding a new one-year pilot STH programme, Grow Well, targeting young people (18–24) facing mental health challenges whilst attending university in Birmingham.
This STH wellness programme will provide students with choice to receive support via a non-clinical setting, enabling them to improve their mental health and potentially develop peer to peer support.
If successful, the objective is to expand this programme to other universities.
